Sea Duck Hunting Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay

As a guide offering sea duck hunting trips on Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay, I can attest to the excitement and challenge of hunting these beautiful birds. Our preferred method of hunting is using layout boats, specifically the UFO layout boats made by Waterfowl Works. These boats provide a low profile and allow hunters to get up close and personal with the ducks.

To get to the layout boats, we use tender boats to transfer shooters from the shore to the layout. This allows for a safe and efficient way to access the hunting location. Once we are set up in the layout boat, we wait for the ducks to come in close range for a shot.

The types of ducks we target during these hunts are longtail ducks, also known as old squaw, as well as scoters. These birds can be found in large numbers in Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay during the hunting season.

Safety is our top priority during these hunts, especially on the Great Lakes and in cold weather. We provides all necessary safety equipment, including life jackets, and we monitor weather conditions closely. We never hunt if the conditions are unsafe, and we always prioritize the safety of our hunters. We also emphasize the importance of responsible hunting practices, including following bag limits and hunting only during designated times and locations.

Sea duck hunting on Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay is an exhilarating experience that requires the right equipment, skills, and safety measures. With our experience and use of layout boats and tender boats, hunters can enjoy a safe and successful hunt for longtail ducks and scoters. Prime time for chasing sea ducks on the Great Lakes is early November through the end of season. We look forward to providing hunters with an unforgettable sea duck hunting experience.
